CELLAR DWELLER (1988)/CATACOMBS (1988)

First, a cartoonist (Debrah Farentino) obsessed with the bizarre imagination of a famous comic book artist (Jeffrey Combs) moves into the very home where the creator of the horror publication “Cellar Dweller” staged a notorious murder-suicide 30 years earlier. In these haunted environs, the dead legend’s biggest fan accidentally resurrects something beastly. Yvonne DeCarlo, Brian Robbins, and Vince Edwards also star. Next, the “Catacombs” of an ancient abbey are the setting for this fourth entry in the “Curse” franchise, as a young girl who has come there to study witnesses a long-feared prophecy coming to pass, with an unholy monster set loose upon the Earth. THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN (2014)

The title might be the same, but this contemporary shocker functions as a sequel to rather than a remake of the 1976 thriller about the Texas “Moonlight Murders” of the 1940s. Now, with the citizens of Texarkana marking the grisly crimes that took place in the town with an annual screening of the original cult movie classic, a hooded maniac claiming to be the original serial killer strikes new fear into the hearts of innocents.
