Don’t Look in the Basement 2 Now Available
Way back in 1973, when yours truly was just a little tyke, there was an exploitation flick released that had a catchy title and great VHS cover art. The film, Don’t Look in the Basement, is directed by S.F. Brownrigg, and it quickly reached “cult classic” status. Finally, forty-four years later we get a direct sequel. Most interesting of all is that S.F. Brownrigg’s son, Tony Brownrigg, directed the sequel and co-wrote it with Megan Emerick. Basement 2 Sequels 1973 Cult Classic Thriller Now On VOD and Special 2-Disc BluRay
In his feature film Don’t Look in the Basement 2 director and co-screenwriter Anthony Brownrigg continues the storyline of the original 1973 ‘Basement’ film directed by his late father S.F. Brownriggand released as The Forgotten. This 2016 sequel which Brownrigg tags a “supernatural thriller” is set forty years later when the only known survivor of a mass murder returns to the institution where the grisly killings took place, his presence triggering a series of increasingly disturbing events.
Don’t Look in the Basement 2 was produced by David Rennke (Source Productions) and Daniel Redd (RDM Productions) and is currently available on all major VOD outlets as well as a special edition 2-disc BluRay that features the original film for the first time on BluRay.
Brownrigg strengthened the connection of ‘Basement 2’ to his father’s earlier film by casting Camilla Carr in a featured role and revisiting the Trinity Institute (formerly Westminster College) in Tehuacana, Texas, for four weeks of principal filming.
Dallas’ own Andrew Sensenig stars as Dr. William Matthews with Arianne Margot as Dr. Lucy Mills and Frank Mosley as Dr. Lance White. Megan Emerick, who co-wrote the screenplay with Brownrigg, plays a supporting role as Nurse Jennifer. Jim O’Rear and Scott Tepperman are orderlies Billy and Bishop, respectively. Willie H. Minor, Jr. is Sam Withers, the mysterious returning patient.
Daniel Redd, David Rennke, Andrew Sensenig, and Brownrigg partnered to create Don’t Look in the Basement 2, LLC under which the film was produced.
Brownrigg earned the Best Picture Award at the 2010 Bram Stoker Film Festival for his film Red Victotia.
Synopsis
In 1972 Stephens Sanitarium was the scene of a brutal mass murder.Forty years later Sam Withers, the only known survivor, arrives at Green Park mental institution.
Dr. William Matthews, a successful New York doctor fighting his own inner demons, accepts a position at the small-town clinic and is assigned Sam’s problematic case.
Sam’s arrival at Green Parktriggers strange behaviors in the staff members and residents.Even the building itself takes on a menacing nuance.
Driven to stop the madness, Dr. Matthews leads the Green Park staff in a plan to save themselves and the remaining patients; however, it’s not until he ventures into the basement that he comes face-to-face with the perverse truth.
