Surprise … The Woods is Actually Blair Witch!! See the Trailer & Stills
This is what the San Diego Comic Con is all about!! We get to see new trailer for upcoming films (so far we’ve seen a Justice League teaser, Wonder Woman trailer, The Flash season three trailer, and the Doctor Strange Trailer, to name a few), and audiences also love to get surprises. Well, for horror fans, we got one hell of a surprise yesterday. Lionsgate announced that their upcoming film, The Woods, is actually a direct sequel to 1999s The Blair Witch Project (just forget about Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 … as most of the world already has). The film is unassumingly titled, Blair Witch, and is due out this September 16, 2016.
Just imagine walking into the screening room assuming you were about to watch the next (most likely) standard killer-in-the-woods film, only to discover that The Woods is actually a cover for Blair Witch!! According to Deadline,
“During the screening, the distrib literally changed out The Woods one sheets and banners in the lobby for Blair Witch ones.”
Blair Witch is directed by Adam Wingard, is written by Simon Barrett, and stars Corbin Reid, Wes Robinson, Valorie Curry, Callie Hernandez, James Allen McCune, and Brandon Scott. Check out the plot crunch:
A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
Now dig on the trailer. This looks as though it is a combo of found footage and of a more traditional narrative. I think it looks great. Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
Stay Bloody!!!
