10 Great Moments From the Original Ghostbusters

There’s no doubt about it, the GHOSTBUSTERS 2016 remake is a huge hit. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are killing it, and there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight to their box office domination. I haven’t yet seen the remake yet, but I did re-watch the original 1984 movie the other night and had forgotten that there are so many iconic scenes in that film. Below is my list of 10 great moments from the original 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS. What scenes have I missed? Let me know in the comments section below.

THE UNIFORMS

The first time the cast walks out all decked out in their uniforms is one of the great moments in cinematic history!! The classic jumpsuits with the proton packs is just about as iconic as you can get. And speaking of proton packs …

THE PROTON PACKS

The first time we see the proton packs fire was an awe-inspiring moment. I remember clear as day seeing those guns fire for the first time when I was kid. Just awesome!!

THE VENKMAN STRUT

Not unlike a peacock showing off its feathers, the purpose of The Venkman Strut has the same function. Not only is Bill Murray’s Dr. Peter Venkman characters fantastic in this movie, it is one of the great characters period!!

“HE SLIMED ME”

The first time we see one of the characters get slimed is a showstopper!! I was thirteen years old when I saw GHOSTBUSTERS for the first time in the theaters and when Murray’s Venkman got slimed, the entire theater erupted into laughter and applause. A truly classic moment.

ECTO-1

Speed Racer’s Mach Five, Starsky & Hutch’s Ford Gran Torino, James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 (from GOLDFINGER), and the Ecto-1 from GHOSTBUSTERS. All iconic cars  that were more than just automobiles. They all became like characters in the films!!

RON JEREMY

Yeah, you read that right. Ron Jeremy. He has the briefest of cameos, but if you saw him I guarantee you had a smile from ear to ear.

SLIMER

Who didn’t laugh and even cringe a little bit the first time they saw Slimer (be honest)? And when you realize that Slimer is a loving tribute to John Belushi, well ya just can’t help but fall in love with it.

STAY PUFT MARSHMALLOW MAN

Besides the uniforms, the proton packs, the Ecto-1, and Slimer, what image is more associated with GHOSTBUSTERS than the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man? I mean, seriously?

THE THEME SONG

Even the theme song has become a part of the national Zeitgeist when it comes to GHOSTBUSTERS!!

THE GHOSTBUSTERS COMMERCIAL

People my age will remember all the crappy, low-budget cable commercials that flooded our TV screens, and GHOSTBUSTERS nailed it!!
