The Witch Release Date Pushed Up a Week

THE WITCH, written and directed by Robert Eggers, is easily one of the top anticipated horror films of 2016. Ever since its debut at 2015’s Sundance Film Festival, THE WITCH has gained more and more notoriety and has picked up more and more positive buzz. The film, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, and Kate Dickie, is about a family in 1630s New England that is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic, and possession.
THE WITCH was originally scheduled to drop in theaters on February 26, 2016, but now the film will hit theaters on February 19, 2016 one week earlier. It also seems the studio has a lot of faith in this film, which at the end of the day is a period horror piece, and instead of going with a limited release and then seeing if the demand is there for a larger release is simply opening to a wide release. I love the fact that the studio is standing firmly behind this film. Check out the trailer and tell me you aren’t looking forward to this!!
