Joe Dante To Direct Supernatural-Thriller, Labirintus
Legendary director Joe Dante is set to direct the upcoming supernatural-thriller, LABIRINTUS. The script was written by Alan Campbell, a Scottish screenwriter and cult fantasy novelist and the film will be financed and co-produced by Goldcrest. LABIRINTUS tells the story of a paranormal investigator and psychiatric researcher who join forces to explore an abandoned subterranean Soviet research facility hidden within Hungary’s Budapest Labyrinth–the dark twisting catacombs beneath Buda Castle. When supernatural forces confound and torment the group, they begin to question their own sanity. To escape they must quash their fears and lead their team to find and destroy the dark heart of the maze. Sounds like a good project for Dante!! Check out the press release:

Pascal Degove, Managing Director of Goldcrest Films (Goldcrest) today announced that legendary director Joe Dante will helm Labirintus – a supernatural thriller set in the dark twisting catacombs beneath Buda Castle in Hungary. Production is anticipated to begin early next spring and casting announcements are expected.
Labirintus tells the story of a paranormal investigator and psychiatric researcher who join forces to explore an abandoned subterranean Soviet research facility, hidden within the Budapest Labyrinth. When supernatural forces confound and torment the group they begin to question their own sanity. To escape they must quash their fears and lead their team to find and destroy the dark heart of the maze.
Goldcrest will be financing and co-producing together with overseeing global sales and distribution. They will launch the film at the American Film Market in Los Angeles.
A graduate of Philadelphia College of Art, Joe Dante started his career as a film critic and then cut trailers for Roger Corman’s New World Pictures before launching his career as a solo director on Piranha for United Artists. Subsequently his hugely successful career as a director has included The Howling, Gremlins, Gremlins 2, Innerspace, The Burbs and Small Soldiers. In addition to Corman, Dante has collaborated with a galaxy of film making luminaries including Steven Spielberg, Chris Columbus, John Sayles, Tom Hanks, Dennis Quaid and John Landis
More recently his 3D film The Hole premiered at Venice, winning the inaugural award for Best 3D Feature. On television Dante’s work includes anthology series Masters of Horror and Amazing Stories together with Eerie, Indiana and the remake of Hawaii Five-O.
Goldcrest Post (home to the Academy Award-winning sound team from Les Misérables) under Managing Director Patrick Malone will be providing picture and sound post production services.
Labirintus is produced by Fabrice Lambot of France’s Metaluna Productions, Lucy Mukerjee-Brown of Mukerjee-Brown Productions, Elizabeth Stanley of Elizabeth Stanley Pictures and Jean-Charles Levy of Forecast Pictures. Nick Quested and Pascal Degove will serve as Executive Producers for Goldcrest. Nancy Bishop is casting the film.
