Wow; a pretty dismal selection this week!! But don’t fret, Halloween is right around the corner and the horror/sci-fi selections should be picking up. Let’s get to it:


When they were just small boys, twins Terry and Todd got bored at the drive-in…and the night ended with Todd’s arrest for the axe murder of a teenage couple. A decade later, Terry (Mark Soper) is sitting down to a family Thanksgiving when word gets out that Todd (also Soper) has escaped the asylum. Better set an extra place…or maybe not! First, when a university scientist’s research into stopping the aging process is widely derided by his peers and the funding for his work appears in jeopardy, he takes the daring step of experimenting on himself. The ensuing “Metamorphosis” backfires with horrifying (if not Kafkaesque) results. Italo-American shocker stars Gene Le Brock, Stephen Brown. Next, a minister moves his family into a picture-perfect New England house, only to find their “dream home” was built on a witches’ graveyard (why wasn’t that on the disclosure statement?). Now, the massacred sorceresses have come back for the human sacrifices that will restore them to life, and the family must battle for their very souls. “Beyond Darkness” stars Le Brock, Barbara Bingham. 187 min. total. Follow the adventures of a mighty warrior blessed with the power to communicate with animals, as Dar “The Beastmaster” (Marc Singer) clashes with cannibalistic bat men, evil witches, and other menaces to free his love (Tanya Roberts) from the high priest (Rip Torn) who slew Dar’s father. With John Amos and Podo and Kodo the ferrets. Next, dueling for centuries for possession of an ancient talisman of great power, the evil sorceress Morgana (Kelly LeBrock) and the noble magician Merlin (Robert Davi) clash once again in the modern era. Merlin chooses a young boy to serve as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” but can he help his mentor battle Morgana’s forces? Anne Power, Gideon Emery also star. 3 1/3 hrs. total. Soundtrack: English.
