Director Narrowed Down for King’s The Dark Tower

Looks like we’re one step closer to getting a DARK TOWER film. Nikolaj Arcel, who wrote the screenplay for the original GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO, seems to be the front runner. According to Deadline.com:

[T]alks will begin shortly toward a deal that will have [Nikolaj Arcel] overseeing a rewrite [of the current script] and directing the film.

Dark Tower2

Earlier this year, Sony Pictures signed on to co-finance the upcoming franchise with Media Rights Capital, and now that a director is close to being named, it looks as though this very ambitious project will be coming to life. Fans of Stephen King’s series of books have been itching to see the gunslinger Roland up on the big screen, and Sony is going to use this as their big franchise anchor. Not only is there a series of films planned, but there will also be a TV series that compliments, supports, and plays off of the films (kind of like how AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D fits into the larger MCU).

Dark Tower1

I have not read THE DARK TOWER series and am really looking forward to the film franchise and TV series. There’s still concern among some fans that this is an “unfilmable” series of books. What do you think?

I love the books! Well at least the ones i read when i still found reading books entertaining. For me now, a novel is nothing more than an unfinished moviescript, and a moviescript nothing more than an unfinished movie. Maybe it’s best to know nothing about the former two, they just might take the surprise out of the movie… Unfilmable? Maybe, but everything that you can imagine is “CG-able” nowadays!
