Tales From the Darkside TV Series Reboot Not Happening

I am seriously bummed. In February 2015 I posted an article detailing the upcoming reboot of one of my favorite TV shows growing up, TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE. Well, now it seems the plug has been pulled on this project. The show’s writer, Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son), was raving about the show not too long ago, but in the world of TV, anything can happen at any time. Deadline reported earlier this month that the CW didn’t order the show:

The CW, which already renewed 9 series and has the Arrow-Flash spinoff on tap for midseason, only ordered four pilots … The anthology Tales From the Darkside had been getting traction with a well executed pilot but its anthology format was a source of uncertainty about how a full season would look, and the project was in need of a showrunner.

The pilot episode, which was shot, centered on Newman, a weathered and tortured young man who is the guide to the unsuspecting who come across The Darkside. Newman (who his own desperate, wrenching secrets) knows exactly what’s causing the terrifying Darkside Events, but he didn’t know how to stop them. This was going to be the main element that drove the series.

It’s understandable that the CW wants to put another superhero show on their schedule. The CW no doubt hit gold with THE FLASH and ARROW (although I thought ARROW had many problems this season), but I think there’s also an audience for something more in the horror realm (the CW proved this with the success of IZOMBIE). I’m not giving up hope yet. Maybe there will be a future life TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE.
