Casting News on the Upcoming Remake of The Crow

In case you didn’t know, in addition to my obsession with horror films, I’m also a huge comic book geek with an ever-growing collection. One of my favorite dark-themed graphic novels is THE CROW, by James O’Barr. O’Barr originally wrote THE CROW as a means of dealing with the death of his girlfriend by a drunk driver. In 1989, Calibre Comics picked it up to publish and the rest is history. The graphic novel became an underground success and was adapted into a film of the same name in 1994, starring Bruce Lee’s son, Brandon (who was tragically killed on set). There were three film sequels of THE CROW, a television series, and numerous books and comic books.
Now it looks like Relativity will be filming a remake and has filled the lead role. Jack Huston will play the lead role of Eric Draven. Huston is best known in such roles as playing Jack Kerouac in the 2013 film, KILL YOUR DARLINGS, and as the facially disfigured Richard Harrow on BOARDWALK EMPIRE. Huston also plays the titular role in the upcoming remake, BEN-HUR (due out in 2016) and stars in the upcoming PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, due out later this year.
Also rumored to be starring in THE CROW remake is Jessica Brown Findlay, of DOWNTON ABBEY fame (her role is unconfirmed at the time of writing this article).
Directing THE CROW remake is Corin Hardy, who signed onto the project in December 2014 after original director F. Javier Gutierrez became unavailable (Gutierrez is now directing RINGS).
I hope they do this remake right. The original THE CROW, starring Brandon Lee, had the right tone and dark atmosphere that I hope the new production can recapture.
THE CROW will start filming later this year. More on this as new info is released.
