Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno Finally Getting a Theatrical Release

If you’ve been following the progression of Eli Roth’s THE GREEN INFERNO you’ll then know that September 5, 2014 came and went without a theatrical release of the much anticipated homage to the classical Italian cannibal films of the 1980s. The film was pulled from release over what appeared to be some kind of bureaucratic bullshit with one of the film’s financiers. It wasn’t released and there was no telling when it would see the light of day.
Well good news.
In a recent interview, Eli Roth shed some light on the film’s release:
As of right now, all systems are go for the theatrical release. Here’s the thing: everyone is working to resolve it. Open Road has been amazing through this entire process. I really love them, they’ve been great. Even with whatever situation World View is going through, everyone is working together to find the best, cleanest, most positive resolution and get the film out in the widest release possible. I think realistically it would be in the August to September range. We wanted to have an announcement at Sundance. Trust me, I check in with the lawyers every day. Everyone is working to resolve it as soon as possible and we have hope to have an announcement within the next couple of weeks for the definite theatrical plan for the film. Everyone’s been so supportive. It’s almost been like “Save ‘The Green Inferno,'” in the same way that the students in the film want to save the Amazon.
Light at the end of the tunnel!! THE GREEN INFERNO is directed by Roth, written by Roth, Guillermo Amoedo, and Nicolás López, and stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Magda Apanowicz, Ignacia Allamand, and Daryl Sabara. I’ve been a fan of Roth’s since CABIN FEVER and I can’t wait to see his take/homage to one of my favorite sub-sub-genres – the Italian cannibal film.
Stay Bloody!!!
