New Horror DVD & Blu-ray Releases for the Week of Jan. 25, 2015
Last year this was a weekly article I published so we could all stay up to date on the newest in horror and sci-fi releases. Unfortunately due to my deteriorating eye sight last year I had to give up this one up. But now it’s back!! This isn’t a complete list and the release dates are always subject to change.
It’s not a huge list this week, but here we go:
BIG DRIVER (2014)
Stephen King’s unsettling novella from “Full Dark, No Stars” comes to the screen in this gripping Lifetime telefilm, in which a famous writer (Maria Bello) finds herself stranded by the side of a New England road after a tire blowout. She is grateful for the help she receives from another driver passing by…until she comes face to face with the grisly truth about him. Will Harris, Olympia Dukakis, and Joan Jett co-star. 90 min. BOMBSHELL BLOODBATH (2014)
A doctor desperate to revive the corpse of his late wife undertakes dangerous experiments that result in a deadly virus spreading through town. As the chemical spawns a horde of flesh-hungry zombies, the doctor’s daughter is somehow spared–and then launches a campaign to not only survive, but reverse the calamitous disaster. JUSTICE LEAGUE: THRONE OF ATLANTIS (2015)
Aquaman swims to center stage in this animated adaptation of the 2012 story arc for the DC Comics superhero team. MAS NEGRO QUE LA NOCHE (2014)
In this contemporary Mexican horror film that recalls the classics of the past, a young woman moves into the creepy old mansion she inherited from her eccentric aunt–bringing along three of her girlfriends to share the massive space. Asked only to care for the deceased woman’s black cat, they find that simple task unleashes a demonic haunting of terrifying proportions. THE UNLIVING (2004)
Put B-movie legends Fred Olen Ray and Paul Naschy together and what do you get? You get this revival of Naschy’s ever-cursed werewolf Waldemar Daninsky in a sexy new thriller that pays homage to the classics of Naschy’s heyday. Here, a TV crew travels to Castle Daninsky and discovers a horrific liaison being forged between the long-dead lycanthrope (Naschy) and the infamous blood-bather, Elizabeth Bathory (Michelle Bauer)!
