Trailer & Stills Drop for Unfriended

Unfriended posterBy now we’re all familiar with the found footage sub-genre. In it, video or film is found after some kind of horrifying event occurred. Regardless of what we think of the found footage film, it’s here to stay. Universal’s upcoming film, UNFRIENDED, is taking it to the next level. Instead of there being found film after a tragedy, the action and story of UNFRIENDED is completely seen through the computer as a group of friends are in a chat room. That’s right, this film is entirely “shot” in a chat room. Previously titled “Cybernatural” (yikes!!), UNFRIENDED comes to us from director Levan Gabriadze and writer Nelson Greaves (who wrote the “Deliverance”episode of TV’s SLEEPY HOLLOW). The film stars Shelley Hennig, Moses Jacob Storm, Renee Olstead, Will Peltz, Jacob Wysocki, Courtney Halverson, and Heather Sossaman. Check out the plot crunch:

Unfriended, which unfolds over a teenager’s computer screen, is the story of a group of online chat room friends who find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend, who killed herself a year earlier as a result of cyber bullying.

Apparently Universal executives saw a test screening of UNFRIENDED scare the crap out of a test audience, and immediately acquired the horror-thriller. I’m having a hard time getting past the idea that the entire film unfolds through a computer screen and that a supernatural entity is forcing a group of friends to remain in a chat room, “or else.” But what the hell … maybe this will kick ass. Right? Check out the trailer and some stills below. UNFRIENDED is slated for an April 17, 2015 release:

Stay Bloody!!!
