More News on the Carrie Remake: Chloe Moretz Talks about Becoming Carrie & More Casting News

The news continues to come from the upcoming CARRIE remake.  In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Chloe Moretz talks in about what she’s doing to prepare to the challenging role.  Then we get some more casting news.  Here’s what Moretz has to say about preparing for the role:

“I am changing everything about me—my hair, my look,” said Moretz. “I’m doing my own take on [the character]. The script is totally different from the [original]. It’s more like the book. It’s a more Black Swan version—it messes with your mind. You’ll see things, and you don’t know if you’ve seen them.”

When she returns to set, she’ll meet Julianne Moore, who plays Carrie’s terrifying mother. “I don’t know if we are supposed to bond [because of our characters’ relationship], but I feel like we both will because we’re both cool,” Moretz joked. “I’ll be like, ‘Hey, want to go to Wonderland?’ It’s this park like Six Flags. They have this crazy thing that goes like 200 miles per hour, and there is, like, an 80-degree drop from 360 feet in the air. It’s epic. [Laughs.] I can scream my lungs out, but I can’t do speeches.”

actress Portia Doubleday

Going back to the source material is a smart move!!  I’m kinda liking the direction and shape the CARRIE remake is going.  Brian De Palma’s 1976 version is a fantastic version and one of my favorite horror films, but I think there’s a lot of room for a new interpretation of CARRIE.  I’m curious as to Stephen King’s thoughts on all this!!

In more casting news:  Two new faces are join gin the cast of the CARRIE remake.  MGM and Screen Gems have confirmed that Portia Doubleday and Judy Greer are joining the cast of CARRIE:

Doubleday will play Chris Hargensen with Greer as Miss Desjardin, the gym teacher. They join the previously announced Julianne Moore as Margaret White, Carrie’s mom, Gabriella Wilde in the role of Sue Snell, Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, and of course Chloe Moretz in the title role.

Here’s the brief plot crunch:

In the story shy high school student Carrie White is raised by a nightmarish religious fanatic mother and comes to grip with devastating telepathic powers just as she reaches puberty. She eventually uses those gifts for lethal means when fellow classmates use the prom as an excuse to humiliate her before the entire school in a parable about bullying.

The CARRIE remake is expected to hit theaters on March 15, 2013.
